On August 12th, we saw the worst kinds of hate and bigotry that plague our country out and proud in Charlottesville, VA. While white supremacists rallied under police protection, anti-racist and anti-fascist activists showed up in huge numbers and with great strength to stand up for progressive values of justice. Nevertheless, the violence of racism was also on display, as one activist was murdered and over a dozen others were severely injured after a white supremacist drove his car through a crowd of peaceful protestors.
We at JVP are dedicated to the global movement against all forms of racism, bigotry, and oppression - from the violence at the hands of fascists in #Charlottesville to the oppression of Palestinians by the state of Israel to the ongoing murder of black and brown people in this country by an increasingly racist and militarized police force.
We urge you to join us for an Interfaith Vigil and Gathering in Solidarity with Charlottesville. Join SURJ DC, St. Stephens, JVP-DC Metro and others for this gathering of song, prayers, reflections, and commission. This will be a multi-racial, multi-faith space with gathering and food at 6:30, a service from 7-8, and open space from 8-9pm.
