More than one dozen of our local chapter members joined with over 1,000 JVP members from across the country in Chicago between March 31–April 2 for the Jewish Voice for Peace National Member Meeting, the biannual opportunity to meet JVP members, partners, and leaders in the Palestine solidarity movement from around the world for in depth conversations to build community, deepen our political analysis, and grow our organizing skills. For the third year in a row, JVP DC held our interfaith Passover Seder, dedicated to freedom for everyone by using a blend of traditional and contemporary readings, poems, and songs to shed new light on Passover as the story of a liberation struggle relevant to oppressed people the world over. In addition to Rabbi Joseph Berman leading the seder, we were honored to have Reverend Graylan Hagler of Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ and Imam Ali Siddiqui of Interfaith Action for Human Rights join us. Several JVP DC members lent their stories and analysis to this panel discussion, organized by Georgetown Students for Justice in Palestine, about how the Taglit-Birthright Israel program functions within American and Israeli systems to oppress Palestinians. As a part of the 8th Annual International Open Shuhada Street Campaign, JVP DC joined a protest led by Youth Against Settlements at the Israeli Embassy to call to #OpenShuhadaSt and for an end to occupation and apartheid in Hebron and the rest of Palestine! Photos by Martin Karcher
