JVP DC Metro marched alongside Free DC, organized labor, racial justice, immigrant justice, climate justice, faith groups, and many others to commemorate May Day and to demand: POWER TO THE WORKERS! NO ICE, NO WAR, FREE PALESTINE. We will not allow the Trump regime and its billionaire allies to decimate our workforce, terrorize our communities, and gut social services while raining bombs down on our siblings in Palestine, Iran, and Lebanon. Now is the time to become even more organized so we can continue to build the collective power we need to strengthen our communities and fight back—to end fascism and imperialism at home, and abroad.
Tashlich
For the third consecutive year, JVP DC hosted a Tashlich service for our members and supporters. Tashlich offers us all the chance to recognize, feel in our bodies, and release the ways in which we have missed the mark this year, both personally and collectively. Tashlich is an opportunity to ritualize and deepen our personal and collective commitments to justice in the coming year.
Havdalah
To facilitate spaces for community-building and explore the role of spiritual practices in our movement for justice, we hosted the first of what will be monthly Havdalah gatherings. Havdalah is a ceremony that takes place on Saturday evenings to mark the end of Shabbat and the beginning of the week.
The Occupation of the American Mind
JVP DC partnered with Voices from the Holy Land to present a free film screening and discussion of The Occupation of the American Mind, which explores how the Israeli government, the U.S. government, and the pro-Israel lobby have joined forces, often with very different motives, to shape American media coverage of the conflict in Israel's favor.
